This summer our Air Scouts enjoyed a brilliant season of adventure, skill‑building and teamwork — from high‑energy games to waterborne fun and hands‑on challenges. Here’s a roundup of the highlights that made The Summer of 25 one to remember (not including our Summer Camp!).
Laser Tag at Squirrel Wood
The Scouts raced, dodged and teamed up for an action‑packed Laser Tag session at Squirrel Wood. Smiles, friendly rivalries and plenty of tactical plans made it a huge hit with everyone who took part.
Campfire cooking and tent practice
At our local campsite the Scouts practised lighting a campfire and cooking hotdog sausages over the flames, then turned their attention to practical skills by pitching and striking a variety of tents – including our trusty old Patrol tents! These sessions were full of useful tips, laughs and a growing confidence for future camping events.
Canoeing at Barnby Dun Lake
A marvellous canoeing session at Barnby Dun Lake gave the Scouts a brilliant taste of paddling, teamwork and lake‑side adventure. The group made great progress and enjoyed being out on the water in the sunshine. Between Kayaks and Canadian canoes, there was adventure for everyone of all abilities!
Round‑robin challenges!
Our round‑robin meeting packed in Water Transportation (getting your water from one bucket to another using cups on an obstacle course!), Slack Line, and Axe Throwing, giving everyone a chance to try different challenges and cheer one another on. It was a fantastic mix of balance, skill and watery fun.
First aid, flagpole building and s’mores back at the Wood
Back at the Wood the focus turned to essential skills: First Aid practice, flagpole building using orienteering poles, and a cosy s’mores session around the fire. Practical learning blended with traditional Scouting moments and plenty of marshmallow‑fuelled laughter.
More water fun and boat racing
In the sunshine and heat the Scouts returned to the water for more cooling activities, including an inventive boat‑racing event where everyone raced little handmade boats crafted from recycled materials. Creativity, teamwork and a few splashes made it unforgettable.
Axe throwing, weaselling and night line
Axe throwing at Squirrel Wood gave Scouts the chance to try different types of axe under careful supervision, while weaselling and a night‑line activity added a daring, skilful twist to evenings in the Wood. Courage, concentration, and team support were on show throughout.
